CMC Colorado Cabin near Rocky Mountain National Park
Through the generosity of Jack Gorby and his family, as well as the Mountaineering Foundation of Chicago, members of the Chicago Mountaineering Club have access to a newly renovated cabin on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. The area offers a true richness of hiking and climbing opportunities in a beautiful alpine setting. The Colorado Cabin makes for an excellent base camp, whether you are looking to go rock climbing, ice climbing, alpine mountaineering, or simply hiking.
The cabin sleeps four comfortably and more if necessary. It has a kitchen, an outhouse, an outdoor shower, and plenty of room for parking and tent camping. There is an RV electrical hook-up. There is no running water. There are two picnic tables on site. Campfires are not permitted on site. New windows were installed in late 2023.
It is located near Allenspark, CO, less than two hours from the Denver airport. With nearby breweries and restaurants in Estes Park, Lyons, and Boulder, this is a wonderful benefit of CMC membership.
The CMC Colorado Cabin is located just 100 yards from the eastern boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park in the Wild Basin region. This area of the park is less traveled than many of the other areas, yet there is an abundance of beautiful alpine lakes, trails, and peaks.
