Devil's Lake State Park
Devil's Lake is a very scenic 360-acre lake surrounded by 500-foot quartzite bluffs. There are nearly 30 miles of hiking trails in the park and over 1700 named climbing routes in the bluffs, which provide an unparalleled opportunity for rock climbing in the Midwest! Located just 40 miles north of Madison and a 3-4 hour drive from northern Illinois, the park is a very convenient destination for frequent club outings.
The Chicago Mountaineering Club (CMC) normally conducts outings every other weekend at Devil's Lake from May through October using our private campground as a base camp.
CMC Campground at Devil's Lake State Park
The CMC has an arrangement with the Mountaineering Foundation of Chicago under which the CMC manages a private five-acre campground at Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin. CMC members and their guests may use the campground anytime they wish. This is a tremendous benefit of being a CMC member, since the public campsites in the state park are often full and difficult to reserve during summer weekends. Non-members are welcome to use the campground while attending official
CMC outings, as per the posted schedule on our
website and
Facebook page.
Outings are open to Non-Members of the Chicago Mountaineering Club. Please take a look at our
outings schedule for dates and locations.
